With the new version of the Competencies module in eHRM, we’ve taken an important step forward.
Companies differ, and so do their competency models. In practice, competencies are often divided into:
- Organizational or cultural competencies, such as proactivity, collaboration, or accountability,
- Role-specific competencies that are shared across multiple positions (e.g. leadership, professional, or support roles) and can be defined through competency profiles,
- Job- or department-specific competencies,
- Individual competencies, which may be developmental or highly specific (e.g. the ability to operate a particular machine mastered by only a few individuals).
Theory suggests that the number of assessed competencies should be limited – not everything an employee needs to know should be assessed, only what truly matters. Some companies even treat technical skills not as competencies, but as qualifications (can / cannot do).
The final decision, however, always lies with the company. What matters most is understanding what competency assessment means for managers and how demanding development conversations become when there are too many competencies involved.
What does the redesigned Competencies module bring?
1. Clear tracking of employee progress
The redesigned version offers a visually enhanced overview of competency achievement and development, along with new, practical features for everyday use:
- Monitoring competency ratings by average score within each category
- A quick visual status overview at individual and team level
- A team graph that helps you quickly identify colleagues with strongly expressed competencies who can support the development of others

2. Simpler and more flexible assessments
Competency assessments are now even more intuitive and optimized for mobile use, making everyday work easier for managers and HR professionals.
3. Support in building a competency model
To help you get started, the system already includes:
- A set of 50 general competencies with indicators
- Available in Slovenian, English, Serbian, and Croatian

This enables companies to quickly launch or upgrade their existing competency model.
